Structure of the course

The course consists of 2 parts

1. Basic project management (plan-based and agile)

2. Agile leadership and Scrum (the agile mindset/values, team and collaboration, 2 perspectives: Scrum master and Product owner role)

On the course, you will not only gain knowledge about project planning and management, but also management techniques that are relevant to know as a project manager. The content of the course thus includes 3 main areas: basic project management, which gives you insight into both the plan-based and agile project management techniques, including traditional techniques for planning and managing the project’s time, scope and costs, agile management with a focus on management and facilitation of the self-managing agile team, including the agile mindset and servant leadership, and last but not least, the SCRUM method, where we go in-depth with the SCRUM method from 2 perspectives – first the Scrum master role and then the product owner role.

Target group for the course

The course is aimed at anyone who works with projects or wants to work with project management in the future and would like to be strengthened in using both traditional or agile project management methods and tools.

Prerequisites: There are no requirements for prior knowledge and experience with project management.

If you choose to follow the PMP certification programme the prerequisites for the PMP exam are 3 years of project management experience

Course outline and teaching format

The course is structured in such a way that the first part of the course deals with traditional project management and leadership and the second part focuses on the agile perspective. Below you can read more about the course content

Basic Project Management

The first part of the course gives you a basic introduction to project management, where the goal is to give you insight into the use of the basic methods and techniques and enable you to plan and manage your own projects.

This part of the course is composed of 2 basic project management courses, with an agile and traditional focus. The 2 project management courses from Google and IBM contribute their relevant perspective on project management:

Google Project Management: Professional Certificate (6 ETCS)

Basic knowledge of how you can plan and manage your projects from both a plan-based and agile approach with a special focus on the SCRUM Method. As part of the course, the participant also gains an introduction to how AI can support your work as a project manager

IBM Project Manager Professional Certificate (4 ETCS)

Basic project management knowledge from both a plan-based and agile perspective based on PMI’s internationally recognized project management standards.

The Project Management Institute (PMI)®’s internationally recognized project management standards bring together international best practices for planning and managing projects. The methods are industry-neutral and can be applied to projects in a wide range of areas — from organizational and construction projects to IT.

As part of this training, participants will prepare for PMI’s project management certification: Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®

Agile mindset and the Scrum method

The second part of the course focuses on the agile mindset with a special focus on the SCRUM method and the different roles: the Scrum master role and the product owner role as well as a scaled perspective with the Scaled Agile Framework. (Scaled Agile Framework® (SAFe®) is a framework for scaling the agile approach across teams, business units and even entire organizations.)

In this part of the course, you will gain in-depth knowledge of Scrum, the framework, the principles, the methods and the daily work as both Scrum master and product owner. The Scrum master has the role of facilitator for the team and is tasked with removing obstacles and coaching and developing the Scrum team to be able to work with the Scrum method and follow the Scrum processes.

One of the central elements of the Scrum method is the close collaboration with the team and the customer, which ensures that the customer’s needs are always in focus. The product owner role represents the customer in the team and has the overall responsibility for the product and for ensuring the project’s value creation. It is the Product Owner’s job to understand the needs of stakeholders – including the business – and communicate the vision and requirements to the team. In addition, the Product Owner’s role in the team is to handle the ongoing prioritization of requirements and manage the product backlog.

The training is based on “A Guide to the Scrum Body of Knowledge” (SBOK™ Guide) and the focus is on participants being able to pass the Scrum Master Certified (SMC™) and Scrum Product Owner Certified (SPOC™) certification exams during or after the course.

The participant chooses between the following agile certification programs from SAFe® or SCRUMStudy:

Product Owner Certified (SPOC™)
SAFe® Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM).
